The 2010 WEG Selection Criteria has been approved by the VaultCanada Sport Committee and Equine Canada.

Overview

The VaultCanada Sport Committee has established this selection process in order to determine representatives for Canada at the World Vaulting Championships and The World Equestrian Games. Specifically, the selection process enables the selection of
a maximum of:

• Four individual male and four individual females - three competitors plus an alternate for male and female. This is the
  maximum number of individuals that any country may send to a vaulting world championship; and,
• One team comprised of six vaulters plus an alternate. Each country is permitted to send only one team to a vaulting World
  Championship.

Any individual or team that wishes to be considered for selection must first meet the minimum performance criteria as specified by the FEI1. Please note that achieving the minimum FEI performance criteria is not on its own sufficient to be named to represent Canada at the World Championships, as there are potentially more individuals/teams that meet the FEI minimum criteria than can be sent to the World Championships.

The selection of the individuals/teams from all those that meet the minimum FEI requirements will be accomplished by ranking the individuals and teams using a ranking scheme that includes scores achieved by the individual/team during the qualification period.

Guiding Principles

The selection process was developed according to the following guiding principles:

• Enables the selection of the individuals/team that have the greatest likelihood of performing well at the World Championships;
• Is based upon an indication of consistent performance at the highest level;
• Allows fair opportunity for competitors to qualify regardless of the year in which they were born;
• Encourages (and does not discourage) competitors from attending as many CVI events as possible;
• Is straightforward, and resists manipulation or poor sportsmanship; and,
• Is sensitive to, but not constrained by, the costs involved.
